"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

#DailyWalk 558 Dixie State University Nightcap Double Loop

This one started at 9:44 pm, so I picked a well lit place to do a 4.36 mile double loop of the Dixie State University campus.  It included 218 feet of climbing in 1:16:25, for a tortoise rating of 5.3 and a pace of 17:32.  Year-to-date miles are 177.33 (6.05 ahead of goal) and climbing totals 14,496 feet (714 ahead of goal).

The tortoise is smiling!  Cheerio!

Mile 888.  After a nice visit with Jacob this evening at the Dolores Dore Eccles Fine Arts Center, Tortoise walked 2.09 miles in a loop on and around the Dixie State University, in 40:24 minutes. There were 103 feet climbed in 1.04 miles along the way, giving that portion a 5.3 tortoise rating.  The rest of the path was flat or downhill.  Lou burned 308 calories doing this.

Where do you go to walk in Las Vegas that is well lit and reasonably secure at night, and isn't the Strip?  Tortoise's answer this evening was to walk 2.02 miles of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus.  Path was virtually flat with a few stairs climbed, totalling 18 feet, making the tortoise rating 6.2.  He burned 314 calories along the way.  For a map, more pictures, and today's walking thought from F. Willyne bringing flowers to Aunt Sponge, the star of the show!

Willyne's home!  Glad she got to go be with the Ragozzines in Melbourne ... and I'm glad to be with her again :-)  I walked to Wendy's to meet her for lunch ... conversation was nice, I lingered, then she kindly drove me back to work.  So what we have is one of the shortest recorded walks here in Terreeeblayland ... 0.23 miles with 7 feet climbed in 5:31 minutes.  Temperature:  75.  Tortoise rating:  5.8.

At dinnertime, I headed into St. George to join Willyne, Grandmother Forsyth, Doug Jr., Josh & Megan, Ethan, Kate, Riley, Suze, Sharon Wilson, Austin & Julienne, and a host of Jacob's friends, at the premier of James & The Giant Peach, a Dixie State production that runs through October 5. We all laughed a lot, the characters all got into their roles so much!

It was wonderful to see Jacob so very happy!

I got to campus a few minutes after 6, so I had a little time to do a campus walk.  I taught an accounting class here in the 90s, but wasn't walking much then, so a lot of what I saw was a first for me.  This was another 1.43 miles with 46 feet climbed in 35:27 minutes.  Tortoise rating:  5.9.

Lots of Ragozzines visiting Darin's new office at the Florida Institute of Technology.
Seems fitting this family would be employed at www.fit.edu
given how much exercise they do :-)
Today's walks:  0.33 miles that I could measure, plus more inside buildings, in about 30 minutes at Florida Tech.  0.25 miles in 5 minutes at the Melbourne airport when sadness befell us and our 43 hours together ended.  0.75 miles in 15 minutes going from gate E35 to B8 in Charlotte.  No moving walkways.  Lifted my carry-on bags up the stairs in between the moving staircases.  Mr. Tortoise does what he can.  There will be more walking on arrival at LAX, and we wouldn't want to forget at least 0.04 miles from the parking lot to our table at Sonny's for the lunch special.  (So that's 1.37 miles today and 108.25 miles since 6/28) Can't go wrong with the ribs, and we agreed the sweet corn nuggets were the best batch we had ever had.  Thanks to the Ragozzines for that meal, Sarah's oatmeal pancakes with applesauce, strawberries, raspberries, and Florida's Natural Orange Juice for breakfast, green smoothies yesterday, and more.  They have been wonderful hosts!  Here's some more pictures, including some fun gymnastics with Abigail! ...

I did two walks, on the campuses of the University of Georgia (in Athens, Clarke County) and Georgia Tech University (in Atlanta, Fulton County), as part of planned visits today.  Here's some pictures and maps of each walk:

This school has been here awhile!
