Walked 3.30 miles in 1 hour 15 minutes today, including 200 feet climbed. Tortoise rating: 4.7. Chapter 3 totals are 45.13 miles walked in 18 hours 8 minutes, with 1,617 feet climbed, and 6 swims totalling 1,590 meters in 1 hour 32 minutes. It was my fourth category 5 climb, and first since June 12. Totals of my category 5 climbs is 7.04 miles with 588 feet climbed in 2 hour 32 minutes.
This was an impromptu walk. I passed the bridge where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses California Highway 58 in daylight, and since this happens rarely, it occurred to me that this was my chance to locate where the trail goes in both directions from this point, since sign markings are not as clear as I would like. It was a
delightful walk. Temperature was about 80 degrees, cool for June. I got to meet someone who started on the trail at the Mexican border on May 14 and is hoping to hike the entire trail to Canada by the end of September. He helped me find the trail here, and I talked to him about how Guitar Lake is a great place to camp before doing the final ascent of Mt. Whitney from the 12,000 foot level. After we parted company, I regretted not asking for his name and permission to take his picture. I enjoyed the conversation in any event and wish him well.

As a teenager, I hiked the John Muir Trail, most of which is also the Pacific Crest Trail, in sections. According to the very useful Halfmile PCT Trail Notes (Southern California section), and (Northern California section) these two trails are the same from PCT mile 767.0 to 942.5 (175.5 miles)
Today I walked 1.6 miles of the PCT, from trail mile 565.0 to 566.6. It will be interesting to see how much of the trail I will wind up seeing over my lifetime. I will track it here, at my usual tortoise pace, as I do it.
Here's a map and some more pictures of this walk, Terreeeblay's first in Kern County, California:

I listened to "The Why Of Priesthood Service", by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One of his memorable quotes was:
"The what of priesthood service teaches us what to do. The why inspires our souls.
The what informs, but the why transforms."
