"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Mile 815.  Walking home on a late Friday work night before another uberdeadline on Monday.  Sounds like a good time to tease the Boredom Committee, who must be thinking the ultimate boredom is to have no blog posts to monitor at all.  Fear not, Tortoise is still walking!  This will be a quick highlight post, hopefully Lou will come back and add more details to it sometime in November after the next work deadline on the hallowed eve of All Saints Day.  But if you click to keep reading, Tortoise does have a little more for you ...

Cheerio!

The view walking away from Lou's new office since August 1.

0.7 miles into the walk home, Tortoise realized his mile counter was winging out --
must have been tired because the GPS was bouncing all over the place and thus
adding two and a half miles for each mile walked.  Made slow plodding Tortoise
look like Roadrunner, beep, beep!  So he rebooted at started recording from there.
Today's walk was 4.73 miles, done in 1:26:13 hours at an average pace of 18:14 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 5.5, earned by climbing 148 feet in the 2.37 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3233.

This was #hike25 of Tortoise's 52 hike challenge.  Part of the today's tease is that now Lou hopes you will be excited to eventually learn what hikes 4 through 24 entailed.  One sneak preview is that the longest of these hikes was 7.22 miles, caused by a Tortoise blunder ...   Six of these hikes had climbs above 400 feet; peaking at 526 feet on #hike12 on September 28.  Tortoise saw his doctor for his twice yearly heart checkup on October 10.  The good news is the walks are helping, but of course we need more!  Now Lou has a diagnosis to have at least 20 minutes of each walk at a 125+ heart rate, rather than just 5 or 10 minutes.  He is now looking for longer hills to climb.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

815.23 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 786.62.

Tortoise has climbed a total of 57,675 feet so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 48,412.   Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- as a way to get the 125 heart rate his doctor suggests for these walks. (and now you know the rest of the story on that.) So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 1:00:14 hours each, compared with his daily average of 1:07:04 hours the previous year.  He enjoys seeing what he can do in an hour and change each day!

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 18:14.9 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 448 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. overall he has walked on 551 of the 560 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.393% consistency rating.

Tortoise believes today's walking thought is an instant classic:  "Abide in My Love", by D. Todd Christofferson.

The tortoise is smiling!
