"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"
until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise
P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Tortoise was having what Sunny would call a stellar day ... .... Walked to work with his pack. Doug Jr was at the house over the weekend, and was amazed when he lifted my pack ... so I weighed it. 19 pounds. He was surprised it was that low. Anyway, I did the 3.01 mile walk with 180 feet climbed in 54:58, which is an 18:17 minute per mile pace, and feeling great! (Tortoise rating: 5.5)
.... The Confluence Park ribbon cutting ceremony was this afternoon from 4 to 7 pm. Doug Jr had to be to work by then, so we went on a magical mystery tour around noon, checked it out and walked around a little. Not enough to measure, but we had a good time, and every little bit helps! Please click on the line below for more pictures, a weigh-in and to continue reading:

.... At the ceremony itself they had walks to show you the new features. They have cleared the trails pretty well and installed some of those tall narrow signs. I'm getting used to them, but still miss the ones with mileage info. This walk was with a group, and the trail gets pretty sandy in places as you remember, so the pace was slower: 1.67 miles with 95 feet climbed (we went down first, but towards the end you do climb a little) in 42:22 -- a 25:24 minute per mile pace. Tortoise rating was also 5.5.
.... Eating for the day: 1,627 calories. 12,394 calories consumed in the past 7 days.
After the second walk, I could feel I had done a lot in the day but was still doing good. Then I ate one of the hamburgers they were grilling at the ribbon cutting. Looked pretty lean to me. I took it with ketchup and mustard on a Western Family bun, and ate it quickly (for me, remember I'm a tortoise, and usually am the last one to finish a meal) along with a half liter of water. I don't know if it was the burger, how fast I ate it, or both, but I got serious heartburn after that which got worse as the evening progressed.
By a few minutes before 8, I was toast and went to bed. Got back up about 11, still felt ogg, and looked through the medicine cabinet to see what might help. Said some more prayers too. Found some Wal Mart Equate brand alka seltzer equivalent and forced that down. Not tasty, but effective. Then slept without further interruption until 7. 11 hours. I needed it, and was back to feeling decent (but still not stellar) in the morning.
The everready bunny is still going and the tortoise is still smiling!

Today's last word ... from reading in Matthew 3 and 3 Nephi 16:
"And lo a avoice from heaven, saying, This is my bbeloved cSon, in whom I am well pleased."
