"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-4

Walked the St. George Mayor's Loop after celebrating Willyne's birthday (that will be tomorrow) with her, Becca, Josh, Megan, and Floryne at the temple this morning.  The 5.2 mile loop begins at the trailhead at the city's Crosby Family Confluence Park.  I took it counterclockwise, but they have mileposts increasing every half mile whichever direction you choose.  Including a little wandering around to take pictures, I walked 5.51 miles with 135 feet climbed in 1:42:54 hours.  Tortoise rating:  6.0, however because of the distance over five miles it qualifies for a Benjamin category override to a tortoise rating of 5.  For a map and more pictures, please click below to continue reading.

Cheerio!

Milepost 0.5.  Wonder how many cars zip by on the adjacent I-15
without realizing this trail is right next to them?

Lots of birds taking a drink in the river!

Milepost 1.0

The snowstorm was 3 weeks ago, but there's still snow and ice here.
For St. George, that is surprising.

Milepost 1.5

The Mayors Loop includes several trails.  Right now it is part of
the Bloomington Hills trail, at a junction with the Larkspur Trail.

Milepost 2.0 at the St. James Lane trailhead

Lots of snow left here

Milepost 2.5

A little bit of country in the middle of the city

Milepost 3.0 as the trail nears River Road

Signs direct you to cross the river on the sidewalk of the River Rd. bridge

Back to the trail on the other side of the river

Just in time for a historical piece of bridge

Riverside Drive trailhead

Still at Riverside Trailhead at milepost 3.5

The trail starts going between the river and some commercial
buildings along Riverside Drive at milepost 4.0.

Approaching the Crosby Family Confluence Park to complete the Mayor's Loop

2014 Stats:

16.65 miles walked, which is 1.67% of my 2014 goal.
5:29:05 hours walked, which is 1.75% of my 2014 goal
758 total feet climbed
2,636 calories burned

1.28% of the year has passed.  The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year.  This tells me I am on track.

I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

The tortoise is smiling!

  1. Great first week! Those are great first week numbers and unlike your last paragraph says I believe in the tortoise ability to produce every, every day!

  2. Agree with Benjamin, awes! And that is super surprising the snow is still there

  3. Thank you both. I believe in the tortoise's ability to produce as well ... but I have to figure out every day how I am going to pull it off, given all the other demands on my life. It is totally a mental game!
