"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-158

Before it got too warm this morning, I walked 3.53 miles in a loop starting and ending at my office in Hurricane, climbing 148 feet in 58:55 minutes.  Tortoise rating:  5.3; calories burned:  564.   Please click below for a map and more ...

Cheerio!

2014 Stats:

439.55 miles walked, which is 43.91% of my 2014 goal.
136:29:37 hours walked, which is 43.61% of my 2014 goal
20,452 total feet climbed
70,338 calories burned
43.45% of the year has passed
I've walked on 125 of the 136 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 91.91% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

The tortoise is smiling!

  3. World famous pickleball courts!?! Clearly I'm behind the times here. And hopefully we can keep the morning walks a thing next week so we can go together :)

  4. Here's the basis for the world famous comment. I put mom on a plane to go see grandchildren awhile back, probably a year ago now. She strikes up a conversation with the person in the adjacent seat, he's a transplant from the Bay Area whose mission in life is to get cities to put in pickleball courts and get them heavily used. He has accomplished both in Hurricane, with the financial assistance of none other that Earvin Johnson, Jr. who likes to support a wide variety of community sports endeavors. Mr. Finger was on the plane to visit with Earvin for this purpose. What are the odds of any of this?
