"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Tortoise tried something new today, a video with him describing his walk while walking.  Not impressive. The video doesn't do justice to what Tortoise saw in person, and he isn't fond of how much emphasis there seems to be on the breathing.  Experimentation will continue, improvement will come.

As for the after work walk, well it was terrific.  3.52 miles roundtrip on the Grapevine Trail in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve just off exit 13 in Washington on Interstate 15.  The turnaround point was the junction with another trail called Bracken's Loop, a climb of 376 feet in 1:08:27 hours.  Tortoise believes he got to the desired 125 heart rate consistently on this path rated 4.0 on the uphill half.  Calories burned:  553.

Cheerio!

2014 Stats:

618.16 miles walked, which is 61.75% of my 2014 goal.
193:48:22 hours walked, which is 62.28% of my 2014 goal
29,169 total feet climbed (today Tortoise has climbed the equivalent of sea level to Everest and beyond this year)
98,689 calories burned
59.42% of the year has passed
I've walked 56 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on May 31, and overall have walked on 175 of the 186 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.09% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

The tortoise is smiling!
