"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-281

Love this picture taken on the Middleton Powerline Trail about three miles into today's 4.79 mile walk with 452 feet climbed in 1:39:28 hours.  Tortoise rating was 3.3, including a one tortoise allowance for consistently sandy walking conditions.  I'm sure Dr. Carter would be pleased with my heart rate on this one ...

Please click below to continue reading so that you can see the map, watch Tortoise's YouTube video, see additional pictures plus a YouTube Cold Play lego video that totally makes me think of Rachel, and ... check out a little of what Ted Brewerton had to say about Light ...

Cheerio!

Let's get started, now that we've driven up Georgetown Lane and
Harvard Way to park the car, and got out our water bottles!

This is the perfect music to be listening to as you look at the colors in these pictures, assuming, of course, that you can take your eyes off the brilliantly creative use of Legos in this video:

We've now finished the 0.4 mile connector road that runs along the boundary
of the Red Rock Desert Reserve and the SITLA land gradually becoming
the rest of the Green Springs neighborhood of Washington City.  So let's
cross into the Reserve and head up to Cottontail Trail

Cottontail Trail delivers us to the Middleton Powerline Trail, where we can
continue either east or west.  Tortoise went west and soon encountered mud
and rocks strewn everywhere where flash floods undoubtedly washed through
multiple times this past month.  Glad Tortoise sticks to the pavement with
his brolly on the rainy days

OK, we made it through the debris.  Let's keep going!

Today's turnaround point at the water tank where the Middleton Powerline Trail
meets the Cottonwood Road

Following the power line makes for a VERY straight trail!

Here's one of the places along the way where ordinary power lines are
intersected by GIANT power lines ...
2014 Stats:

799.19 miles walked, which is 79.84% of my 2014 goal.
252:20:36 hours walked, which is 80.62% of my 2014 goal
38,045 total feet climbed
127,661 calories burned
77.00% of the year has passed
I've walked 15 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 228 of the 241 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.61% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day

And now for today's walking message, entitled simply, "Light",

"The light of the gospel illuminates the path of life to eternity that otherwise would be dark and nondirecting.
"We can be like a mirror and direct light even into dark places. We are not the sources of light; nevertheless, through us light can be reflected to others."

To watch, listen to, or read the full message, please visit https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1991/10/light?lang=eng  (It's excellent, so please treat yourself to 11 minutes of brilliance and head on over!)

The tortoise is smiling!
