"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-331

Mile 940.  Tortoise walked 2.26 miles on a short Thanksgiving night loop from home after turning on our Nativity and Christmas lights to start the season.  There were 99 feet climbed in 1.13 miles along the way, giving that portion a 5.3 tortoise rating.  The rest of the path was flat or downhill.  Lou burned 333 calories in 42:37 minutes doing this.

Cheerio!

2014 Stats:

940.23 miles walked, which is 93.93% of my 2014 goal.
296:17:41 hours walked, which is 94.66% of my 2014 goal
46,025 total feet climbed
149,134 calories burned
90.73% of the year has passed
I've walked 58 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on September 20, and overall have walked on 271 of the 284 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 95.42% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.

And now for today's walking thought, originally presented in October 1993:

"My father explained the creative process, the spiritual process, if you will, and the need for quiet pondering and getting close to the Spirit for his creativity to function.  Because he took time to explain and help me understand, I learned a lesson that has been put to use almost daily in my life.  Parents have the privilege and responsibility of teaching by our example and testimony to our loved ones."

  2. Stephen Sanders had that Merry Christmas sign up on the hill with his large light tree, visible everywhere in town. His family gave it to us after his death. Very touching!
