"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-28

Mile 80.  Another high quality evening walk, this time a loop on the north side of Hurricane from Tortoise's office.  For more on tonight's walk, including today's walking thought by L. Tom Perry, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Lou walked 2.75 miles today in 48:05 minutes.  Average tortoise rating was 5.1 on the 1.38 mile uphill segment of this walk, based on 139 feet climbed. 400 calories were burned.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

80.92 miles walked, which is 8.08% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 82.81 year-to-date miles.

24:05:46 hours walked, which is 7.70% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

3,229 total feet climbed, compared with 3,961 feet on this day in 2014.

12,092 calories burned

7.67% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 32 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 322 of the 337 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.55% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1995:

"With all of the confusion existing in the world today over the role of women, Sister Hinckley stands as a worthy role model for those who are still struggling to find the right balance in life. May they listen when you declare how great it is to be eighty years of age because you can look back on a life filled with accomplishment, growth, understanding, faith, support, and fulfillment."

A sidenote from Lou:  President Hinckley ended the Sunday morning session with his call to "stand a little taller".  Elder Perry started the Sunday afternoon session with this tribute to the special lady who inspires President Hinckley to stand a little taller!

The tortoise is smiling!
