"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-33

Mile 93.  Walked the final 3.16 miles of the Pacific Electric Trail (at least for now) from Tokay in Fontana to Maple on the Rialto border, then retraced my steps. It was a 10k walk, and a little extra, if you prefer metric measurements.  This completes Tortoise's walk of the entire trail from the Claremont-Montclair line to the Fontana-Rialto line, done both directions for a round trip distance of 36 miles.

Cheerio!

Tortoise lucked out and got a parking place close to his starting/ending point on Tokay Avenue

The trail is instantly more picturesque than the streets

Snow-capped Mt. San Gorgonio, highest mountain in southern California,
makes for a nice view straight ahead while walking

The trail passes a nice city park

Lots of history along the way

This shows the Fontana portion of the Pacific Electric Trail

Looks like Rialto is about to open their continuation of the trail. Nice!

Turnaround, cross the street from the Rialto side, and thus reenter Fontana

Steel and Steelworkers are an important part of Fontana's history

Nice library along the way!

And that's about it. Which direction did you like better ... east or west?
Today's walk totalled 6.33 miles, done in 1:47:35 hours.  Tortoise rating was 6.5, based on 45 feet climbed in the 3.17 mile "uphill" portion. The walk gets a Benjamin category override to 5.0, based on its over 5 mile length.  928 calories were burned.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats recently and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where Lou walked today:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

93.85 miles walked, which is 9.37% of my 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 100.21 year-to-date miles.

28:01:47 hours walked, which is 8.96% of my 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

3,687 total feet climbed, compared with 5,808 feet on this day in 2014.

13,911 calories burned

8.95% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 36 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 326 of the 341 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.60% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1995:

"This strong woman, though physically helpless, had the power to love, to motivate, to inspire, to perpetuate righteousness, to do good."
