"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-38

Mile 116.  Tortoise is lonely, missing his sweet lady who is far away in the frozen tundra of Boston doing good things with our family.  After a weekend day fighting the tax preparation wars, Lou headed out for a walk with a little bonus length -- from the office down to the Virgin River, then back up the steep Tortoise Track hill (that's the real name of the trail!) on his way to complete this scenic loop.  It was a nice time of day to capture some pictures, so please click below to keep reading, then let our friend Tortoise know which of them is your favorite.   Thank you and ...

Cheerio!

A new building is going up on Hurricane's 600 North Street
just above the middle school.  Not sure what it is ...

Sunset in Confluence Park is often a very special experience

Tortoise completed today's 6.44 mile walk in 1:48:47 hours.  Tortoise rating was 3.8, based on 488 feet climbed in the 1.99 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3186).  952 calories were burned along the way.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  (Lou keeps trying without success.)  Instead of embedding the map, let's try this link and see if that works better for you to see where he walked today:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

116.72 miles walked, which is 11.65% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 118.38 year-to-date miles.

35:00:12 hours walked, which is 11.18% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

5,604 total feet climbed, compared with 6,429 feet on this day in 2014.

17,412 calories burned

10.54% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 41 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 331 of the 346 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.66% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1995:

"Now, after all those years and all those prophecies and all those symbolic offerings, the type and shadow was to become reality. On this night when Jesus’ mortal ministry was concluding, the declaration made by John the Baptist when that ministry had begun now meant more than ever—“Behold the Lamb of God” (John 1:29).
"As a final and specially prepared Passover supper was ending, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to his Apostles, saying, “Take, eat” (Matt. 26:26). “This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19). In a similar manner he took the cup of wine, traditionally diluted with water, said a blessing of thanks for it, and passed it to those gathered about him, saying: “This cup is the new testament in my blood,” “which is shed … for the remission of sins.” “This do in remembrance of me.” “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come” (Luke 22:20;Matt. 26:28Luke 22:191 Cor. 11:26).
"Since that upper room experience on the eve of Gethsemane and Golgotha, children of the promise have been under covenant to remember Christ’s sacrifice in this newer, higher, more holy and personal way.
"With a crust of bread, always broken, blessed, and offered first, we remember his bruised body and broken heart, his physical suffering on the cross where he cried, “I thirst,” and finally, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (John 19:28Matt. 27:46.)
"The Savior’s physical suffering guarantees that through his mercy and grace (see 2 Ne. 2:8) every member of the human family shall be freed from the bonds of death and be resurrected triumphantly from the grave. Of course the time of that resurrection and the degree of exaltation it leads to are based upon our faithfulness.
"With a small cup of water we remember the shedding of Christ’s blood and the depth of his spiritual suffering, anguish which began in the Garden of Gethsemane. There he said, “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death” (Matt. 26:38). He was in agony and “prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:44).
"The Savior’s spiritual suffering and the shedding of his innocent blood, so lovingly and freely given, paid the debt for what the scriptures call the “original guilt” of Adam’s transgression (Moses 6:54). Furthermore, Christ suffered for the sins and sorrows and pains of all the rest of the human family, providing remission for all of our sins as well, upon conditions of obedience to the principles and ordinances of the gospel he taught (see 2 Ne. 9:21–23). As the Apostle Paul wrote, we were “bought with a price” (1 Cor. 6:20). What an expensive price and what a merciful purchase!"
