"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-45

Mile 143.  Tortoise walked the really long scenic way to work on a lonely Saturday with his sweet lady still gone to the frozen land to the East.  Down to the Virgin River on the Confluence View Trail, then back up by way of Tortoise Track.  For more pictures and detail, along with today's walking thought by Eugene Hansen, please click below to to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Tortoise completed today's 5.14 mile walk in 1:34:28 hours.  Tortoise rating was 4.0, based on 471 feet climbed in the 2.09 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3183). 751 calories were burned along the way.  The Boredom Committee will be pleased to note that this was an over five mile walk with no need for a Benjamin category override -- the terrain took care of that itself.

Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since.  (Lou keeps trying without success.)  Instead of embedding the map, let's try these links and see if that works better for you to see where he walked today:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

143.53 miles walked, which is 14.32% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 136.93 year-to-date miles.  (Yes, that's the same as yesterday -- this day in 2014 was the second missed day of that year)

42:39:18 hours walked, which is 13.63% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

6,923 total feet climbed, compared with 7,225 feet on this day in 2014.

21,404 calories burned

12.46% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 47 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 337 of the 352 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.74% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1996:

"Fearing the danger, I immediately turned my sheep up the hill away from the direction the snakes were moving. I was successful for a time, but then a couple of sheep broke away from the flock. As they did so, the entire flock seemed determined to follow those two errant old ewes, and there was no stopping them."
