Mile 156. Tortoise split today's walk into two segments. The first was early in the morning along the Marvin Braude Trail near the Los Angeles airport, the second was near sunset up the Mount Everest Trail in Washington, Utah. Tortoise completed today's 2.29 and 2.18 mile walks in 1:13:25 hours. Tortoise ratings were 6.2 on the first walk, based on 94 feet climbed in the 1.15 mile uphill portion (average elevation 35) and 4.0, based on 249 feet climbed in the 1.09 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3064). 694 calories were burned along the way.
Tortoise's walking map provider, www.mapmyfitness.com, has changed formats and the maps haven't transferred to this blog as well since. (Lou keeps trying without success.) Instead of embedding the map, let's try these links and see if that works better for you to see where he walked today:

Walk 2: http://www.mapmyfitness.com/routes/view/636086540
And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
156.37 miles walked, which is 15.61% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 148.96 year-to-date miles.
45:55:24 hours walked, which is 14.67% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
7,829 total feet climbed, compared with 7,755 feet on this day in 2014. Tortoise has caught up with last year's pace of climbing hills to get his heart rate up.
23,339 calories burned
13.42% of the year has passed
Lou has walked 50 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 340 of the 355 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.78% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)
And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1996:
"The need to remain focused on eternal goals is illustrated in the biblical account of Jesus walking on the sea and Peter’s desire to do the same. Peter progressed over the water so long as he looked to Christ. But when he diverted his gaze away from the Master and allowed fear and doubt to enter in, he began to sink.
"If we, like Peter, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and our eternal destination, we, too, may “walk triumphantly over the swelling waves of disbelief, and unterrified amid the rising winds of doubt” (Frederic W. Farrar, The Life of Christ [1994], 313; see also Matt. 14:24–31)."
