"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-57

Mile 185.  Tortoise found him a challenging hill to climb less than 10 minutes from his office after work.  The hill rewarded Lou with some terrific scenic views, please click below to enjoy several more pictures, along with a map and details and the day's walking thought by Joe J. Christensen ...

Cheerio!

Tortoise completed today's 4.06 mile walk in 1:12:00 hours.  Tortoise rating was 3.4, based on 553 feet climbed in the 2.03 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3741). 669 calories were burned along the way.

Here is a map of today's route:

And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

185.19 miles walked, which is 18.48% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 175.28 year-to-date miles.

54:17:36 hours walked, which is 17.35% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

10,126 total feet climbed, compared with 9,118 feet on this day in 2014.

27,767 calories burned

15.65% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 57 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 347 of the 362 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.86% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)

And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in October 1996:

"The Savior is counting on you to be a champion of those who need you-they are all around you-in your school,in your neighborhood,in your family. There are those who wake up every morning dreading, because they worry about how they will be treated. You have the power to change their lives for the better. Think less about yourself and more about the power you have to assist others."
