Mile 225. An evening view of La Verkin from the top of Hurricane's Main Street at the halfway point of Tortoise's walk. The day's walking thought is by Patricia Pinegar ...
Cheerio!
Tortoise completed today's 4.59 mile walk in 1:14:37 hours. Tortoise rating was 5.1, based on 234 feet climbed in the 2.30 mile uphill portion (average elevation 3285). 710 calories were burned along the way.
And here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
225.27 miles walked, which is 22.48% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 201.06 year-to-date miles.
65:26:06 hours walked, which is 20.91% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
11,376 total feet climbed, compared with 10,379 feet on this day in 2014.
33,947 calories burned
18.85% of the year has passed
Lou has walked 67 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 357 of the 372 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 95.97% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)
And now for today's walking thought, initially presented in April 1997:
"May I say something to the young men and women of the Church. Look to parenthood; prepare and plan for it. Prepare to be worthy fathers and mothers. The thoughts of your future children can keep you in the right way. If this blessing isn’t yours in this earth life, your preparation and desire will prepare you to love and nurture all of God’s children as the Savior did. Your eternal reward can be an eternal family."
