Mile 239. Tortoise celebrated pi day by walking pi/2 miles on the Pacific Electric trail beginning at the historic Etiwanda station, then retracing his steps. Lots of other people had the same idea, as you will see in Lou's pictures ...
Cheerio!
Let's get Tortoise out of the way and take a better look at the station. We can hope they will restore it one day, it has a lot of character! |
Tortoise turned around at 1.57 miles, a little before reaching Baseline in Fontana. |
The mountains look great on this clear morning! |
Today's walk was 3.14 miles, with a 6.3 tortoise rating earned by climbing 47 feet in the 1.57 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 1318. The walk burned 509 calories in 48:37 minutes.
Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
239.20 miles walked, which is 23.87% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 214.50 year-to-date miles.
69:32:52 hours walked, which is 22.22% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)
11,970 total feet climbed, compared with 10,683 feet on this day in 2014.
36,112 calories burned
20.13% of the year has passed
Lou has walked 71 consecutive non-Sundays since his last missed day on December 22, and overall has walked on 361 of the 376 non-Sundays since the beginning of 2014, a 96.01% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014)
And now for today's walking thoughts, initially presented in October 2014:
I jumped to the October 2014 conference for today as I continued preparation for a talk I am giving in La Verkin 4th Ward tomorrow on the resurrection, the atonement ... using practical terms, what does that mean to us?
Here are some thoughts that were pointed out to me by my stake president, Maurice DeMille, which I appreciate greatly:
“In partaking of the sacrament we are tought how
we may be made clean … Christ satisfied
that demands of justice … He makes us clean … upon our receipt of the Holy
Ghost we are cleansed and purified...Inside of ourselves when we undergo that
change of heart we feel an inner peace –
to stand before the Savior without any trepidation.”

“This life is the time to prepare to meet God. We are a happy, joyous people. My prayer is that … we will make our conduct
consistent with the noble purposes
required of those who are in the service of the Master. In all things we should remember that being “valiant in the testimony
of Jesus” is the great dividing
test between the celestial and terrestrial kingdoms. We want to be found on the celestial side of that
divide." Elder Cook then closed by bearing “fervent testimony
of the reality
of the Atonement and the divinity of Jesus Chris, our Savior”

The tortoise is smiling!
