"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-232

Mile 667.  Tortoise did some volunteering at a local special needs activity program this evening, arriving by foot from home.  Pictured above is the beginning of his meandering walk home afterwards.  For a map, further details, and the day's walking thought by Michael Ringwood, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Starting at the white dot in the red box/white star in the blue circle located near the bottom of the map, Tortoise headed north (up) along 100 West, crossed State Street at the Center Street signal, then walked west two blocks before turning left (down) on 300 West a block to the church hosting the special needs activity program.

After the program, Lou headed east on 100 South, passing the 1 mile marker, then headed up State Street a block back to the Center Street signal.  He then walked up the Center Street hill, went left at 100 East for two blocks before going left again.  Near the corner of 200 North and Main Street, the 2 mile marker was passed.  From there is was a straight five block walk to the end of Main Street, following by a short block to Tortoise's point of origin.

This was a 2.80 mile walk, with a 5.3 tortoise rating earned by climbing 111 feet in the 1.40 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 3227.  The walk burned 412 calories in 49:41 minutes.

As you may have noticed, Tortoise is better at consistently walking that he is at consistently writing about his walks.  Just today, he was able to complete two posts for walks done earlier:  March 16, 2015, a 3.4 mile roundtrip walk begun southbound on the PCT from Cajon Pass Road.  And also April 3, 2015, a 4.2 mile roundtrip walk begun northbound on the PCT from Echo Pass Trailhead.  Lou likes the pictures from these walks and thinks you will too.  Be sure to leave a comment and let him know which picture you like best.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

667.31 miles walked, which is 66.60% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 658.16 year-to-date miles.

204:21:04 hours walked, which is 65.29% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

33,375 total feet climbed, compared with 31,096 feet on this day in 2014.

100,144 calories burned

63/59% of the year has passed

Lou has walked 87 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 190 of the 199 non-Sundays in 2015, a 95.48% consistency rating.  This compares with 187 days walked after 199 non-Sundays in 2014 (a 93.97% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought:

"All I really want in life is to please my fathers -- both earthly and heavenly -- and to be more like Shiblon [going about doing good continually, as incognito as possible].

The tortoise is smiling.
