"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-265

Mile 764.  Another exciting array of clouds greeted Tortoise on his walk in La Verkin this evening.  Temperature was at Goldilocks standard as well ... not too hot, not too cold, just right.  For a map, more details, and walking thoughts from the final major address of Richard Scott, who passed from this life this afternoon, please click below to continue reading ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.78 miles, with a 5.5 tortoise rating earned by climbing 118 feet in the 1.89 mile uphill portion at an average elevation of 3195.  The walk burned 555 calories in 1:05:03 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

764.10 miles walked, which is 76.26% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 751.38 year-to-date miles.

233:46:28 hours walked, which is 74.69% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year)

39,485 total feet climbed, compared with 35,853 feet on this day in 2014.

114,556 calories burned.

72.52% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 115 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 218 of the 227 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.04% consistency rating.  This compares with 214 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.27% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's 2013 walking record with 2014 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you)

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Our Father in Heaven has given us tools to help us come unto Christ and exercise faith in His Atonement.  Today I have chosen to discuss four of these tools ...

"The first tool is prayer.  Choose to converse with your Father in Heaven often ... as you exercise that agency and include Him in every aspect of your daily life, your heart will begin to fill with peace, buoyant peace.

" ... as you dedicate time every day, personally and with your family, to the study of God's word, peace will prevail in your life ... It will be a gift of the Spirit.  It will radiate out from you to influence others in the world around you.  You will be doing something very significant to add to the cumulative peace in the world.

"While you are working to strengthen your family and cultivate peace, remember this third tool:  weekly family home evening. ... Make it a meaningful experience for each member of the family ... strengthen family bonds; to develop family traditions; to talk to each other' and more important, to have a marvelous time together!

" ... Schedule a regular time to be in the temple ... The temple is one of the best places to come to understand the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Seek Him there.

"These four tools are fundamental habits for securing your life in the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Remember our Savior is the Prince of Peace.  Peace in this mortal life comes from His atoning sacrifice."

  1. I loved Elder Scott, I read this talk last night as well. And love seeing pictures of home on your blog. The weather has been perfection here lately, I wish it would last forever, but it does make me appreciate it more :)

  2. I love the fall weather in Chicagoland. I visited my aunt a couple time in October and it was delightful then as well, although at that point the evenings clearly gave an indication of what was to come. I hope you will be able to enjoy it for several weeks!
