"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-285

Mile 828.  Pretty much every neighborhood near Tortoise's habitat have layered mountain views not too far away.  If you look above the right side of the house that is straight ahead in the picture, you will see a little knoll of a different color than the rest of the ridge.  That's because it's a couple thousand feet higher and ten or so miles distant, with a dip in the nearby ridge making the knoll visible.  Turn the corner and the view completely changes.  Makes Lou very happy as he walks.  You know there's more from him if you click below, see you there ...

Cheerio!

Here is "just around the corner".

Today's route.  Lou made good time today, his doctor will be pleased.
Today's walk was 4.09 miles, with a 4.8 tortoise rating earned by climbing 272 feet in the 2.05 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3291.  The walk burned 622 calories in 1:08:05 hours.

Lou also completed a post from earlier in the year on June 2 in his continuing effort to catch the blog up with his walks.  Please click here to read all about it.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

828.78 miles walked, which is 82.71% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 811.69 year-to-date miles.

254:07:49 hours walked, which is 81.19% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

43,824 total feet climbed, compared with 39,271 feet on this day in 2014.

124,246 calories burned.

77.96% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 132 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11.  Overall he has walked on 235 of the 244 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.31% consistency rating.  This compares with 231 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.67% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"All of us are blessed when the Sabbath is filled with love for the Lord at home and at church.  When our children are taught in the ways of the Lord, they learn to feel and to respond to His Spirit.  We will all desire to attend each Sunday to partake of the sacrament when we feel the Spirit of the Lords.  And all,, young and old, who are carrying heavy burdens will feel the spiritual uplift and comfort that comes from a Sabbath day of devoted contemplation of our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Thankfully Christ is always near, waiting and willing to help us when we pray for him to help and are willing to repent and come unto Him."

M. Russell Ballard, "God Is At The Helm", October 2015 LDS General Conference

  1. Agree, the views are so beautiful. I miss the mountains, and how clear the sky is, especially at night, it still feels like home

  2. Wish I could take a picture of it right now with the new moon and a perfectly clear night sky and send it to you. The stars are amazing! My phone camera is wonderful, but has its limits :-)
