"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-287

Mile 833.  Lots happening near Lou's office as he began his walk this evening.  The local Calvary Chapel is located next door, and the parking lot filled with folks going for midweek bible study.  Across from that are the pink lights in the newly planted trees of the Paparazzi building, and the brightly lit city office sitting above that.  Towering over it all behind the street light is East Cinder Knoll.  It's deadline eve, so Tortoise did a short walk up the hill to get his blood pumping before returning to his desk.  Lou's got a picture for you of the evening lights in the valley and the silhouette of Molly's Mountain (the locals may have a different name for it, but this seems more respectful) ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.16 miles, with a 4.9 tortoise rating earned by climbing 137 feet in the 1.08 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3285.  The walk burned 317 calories in 38:07 minutes.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

833.78 miles walked, which is 83.21% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 818.07 year-to-date miles.

255:34:04 hours walked, which is 81.65% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

44,061 total feet climbed, compared with 39,639 feet on this day in 2014.

124,988 calories burned.

78.59% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 134 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11.  Overall he has walked on 237 of the 246 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.34% consistency rating.  This compares with 233 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.72% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  And Tortoise feels much more vibrant when he is consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"True worship begins when our hearts are right before the Father and the Son.  What is our heart condition today?  Paradoxically, in order to have a healed and faithful heart, we must first allow it to break before the Lord.  'Ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit,' (3 Nephi 9:20) the Lord declares.  The result of sacrificing our heart, or our will, to the Lord is that we receive the spiritual guidance we need.

"With a growing understanding of the Lord's grace and mercy, we will find that our self-willed hearts begin to crack and break in gratitude.  Then we reach for Him, yearning to yoke ourselves to the Only Begotten Son of God.  In our brokenhearted reaching and yoking, we receive new hope and fresh guidance through the Holy Ghost."
