"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-294

Mile 856.  This must be some kind of record, welcome, mind you, but a record all the same.  This is the seventh consecutive day that southern Utah has received notable amounts of rain.  Tortoise continues to be watchful for opportunities to walk, today, this meant waiting until the last 30 minutes of sunlight before beginning and walking by flashlight the last mile.  Lou can see, his concern is that others see him.  The air smells so wonderful, which made for a most pleasant walk ...

Cheerio!

The colors of Halloween are coming

Today's walk was 4.08 miles, with a 4.9 tortoise rating earned by climbing 261 feet in the 2.04 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3290.  This walk burned 613 calories in 1:08:31 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

856.45 miles walked which is 85.47% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 842.44 miles.

262:29:02 hours walked which is 83.86% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

45,369 total feet climbed, compared with 41,074 feet on this day in 2014.

128,403 calories burned.

80.51% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 140 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11.  Overall he has walked on 243 of the 252 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.43% consistency rating.  This compares with 239 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 94.84% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"... no love in mortality comes closer to approximating the pure love of Jesus Christ than the selfless love a devoted mother has for her child. ... This kind of resolute love 'suffereth long, as is kind, ... seeketh not her own, ... but ... beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endured all things.' (Moroni 7:45; see also 1 Corinthians 13:4-7) Most encouraging of all, such fidelity 'never faileth.' (Moroni 7:46; see also 1 Corinthians 13:8)  'For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed,'  Jehovah said, 'but my kindness shall not depart from thee.' (3 Nephi 22:10; see also Isaiah 54:10)  So too say our mothers."

  1. You could use one of those "miners' lamp" headbands as a flashlight to leave your hands free for taking spooky pictures.
