Mile 898. Happy Halloween! Tortoise did walk today, in two segments. First he parked his car at the Riverside trailhead just west of River Road in St. George, and walked from there to Josh and Megan's house on 1450 South. Later, he walked with his grandchildren and watched while they trick or treated on a wonderful street in Santa Clara. Pictured above was a fun projected light that made everyone glow with green dots. There's pictures, and the usual fun, even a walking thought by Thomas S. Monson, when you click below to continue reading ...
Cheerio!

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:
898.57 miles walked which is 89.68% of Lou's 2015 goal. On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 870.35 miles.
275:43:49hours walked which is 88.09% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).
48,164 total feet climbed, compared with 42,761 feet on this day in 2014.
134,810 calories burned.
83.39% of the year has passed.
Lou has walked 149 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11. Overall he has walked on 252 of the 261 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.55% consistency rating. This compares with 248 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 95.02% consistency rating).
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year. This tells Tortoise that he is on track. Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day. (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent. He hopes you find what works for you).
And now for today's walking thought ...
"God's commandments are not given to frustrate us or to become obstacles to our happiness. Just the opposite is true. He who created us and who loves us perfectly knows just how we need to live our lives in order to obtain the greatest happiness possible. He has provided us with guidelines which, if we follow them, will see us safely through this often treacherous mortal journey. We remember the words of the familiar hymn: 'Keep the commandments! In this there is safety; in this there is peace.'"
-- President Thomas S. Monson, "Keep the Commandments", October 2015 LDS General Conference
