"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-343

Mile 1,038. The skies of LaVerkin appear to be on fire in this brilliant December sunset, a prelude to Tortoise's Christmas light walking tour of much of this community. Today's walking thought is by Jean Stevens ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 4.25 miles and had a 5.5 tortoise rating earned by climbing 141 feet in the 2.13 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3192. This walk burned 630 calories in 1:16:51 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

1,038.89 miles walked which is 103.68% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 969.03 miles.

319:40:58 hours walked which is 102.14% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

56,912 total feet climbed, compared with 47,565 feet on this day in 2014.

156,132 calories burned.

93.93% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 182 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 285 of the 294 non-Sundays in 2015, a 96.94% consistency rating.  This compares with 281 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 95.58% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"When daughters of God focus on the temple and on their sacred covenants, God is able to send blessings in personal and powerful ways.  Like my mother's example to me, your choice to believe and keep covenants will leave a rich legacy of faith for those who follow you."

-- Jean A. Stevens, "Covenant Daughters of God", October 2014 LDS General Conference

  2. And some of us just decorate our yards. Lots of decorations or a special few, Tortoise enjoys it all and thanks you!

  3. Love the Christmas light tour, I feel like some people have been stepping up their games! One is the years T and I need to start participating in this...

  4. You'll have to try looking at Christmas lights while walking. It's a whole different viewpoint from seeing the lights from a car. Even if you do have to bundle up REALLY well!

  5. Maybe one of those "Mayor's walks" should be scheduled for a December evening.

  6. Tortoise is only aware of one walk yearly hosted by Mayor Gubler, that being the one during the day of Winter Fest. Lou participated in 2014 (you can read about that and see pictures here: http://terreeeblay.blogspot.com/2014/12/14-340.html). He was out of town at a family activity for the 2015 Winter Fest. One of Tortoise's favorite Winter Fest activities is the Light Parade -- you might just be on to something Anne -- if the Mayor could be persuaded to have his walk begin with the Light Parade and then continue through some of the rest of La Verkin, would you be interested in being one of those walking?

  7. Yes, I would. That sounds like fun.
Maybe we could carry torches like the villagers in "Frankenstein". But, no, that would distract from the decorations.

  8. Tortoise will see if he still has any persuasiveness at the city offices. :-) In the meantime, there's an encore that Lou posted to the Laverkin Community Facebook Page to see if there is broader interest: https://www.facebook.com/groups/laverkin/
