"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-353

Mile 1,072.  On a spectacular 58 degree afternoon with no wind, Tortoise got an idea for a new place to walk that includes a nice steadily steep hill with beautiful views.  So he drove out 3000 South in Hurricane to within about a half mile of the drop down to Sand Hollow Reservoir, parked his car, walked the rest of the way to the top of the hill, then dropped down for a mile and a quarter.  At this point he crossed the street and walked back up to where he started, taking pictures all along the way.  The day's walking thought is by Henry B. Eyring ...

Cheerio!

walking up

and up some more

made it!

This very spacious and beautiful view property can be yours
for the low, low price of $61,000,000.  It won't last long at
this price, so act now!

Tortoise Travels' pace car awaits Lou's arrival.

Includes a full half-mile of purple 8% uphill grade

Today's walk was 3.42 miles and had a 4.0 tortoise rating earned by climbing 383 feet in the 1.71 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3269. This walk burned 537 calories in 55:56 minutes.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

1,072.89 miles walked which is 107.07% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 997.91 miles.

329:37:08 hours walked which is 105.31% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

59,189 total feet climbed, compared with 48,563 feet on this day in 2014.

161,273 calories burned.

96.81% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 191 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 294 of the 303 non-Sundays in 2015, a 97.03% consistency rating.  This compares with 290 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 95.71% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

" ... you have the opportunity to show many people the way to greater happiness.  When you choose whether to make or keep a covenant with God, you choose whether you will leave an inheritance of hope to those who might follow your example.

"You and I have been blessed with the promise of such an inheritance.  I owe much of my happiness in life to a man I never met in mortal life.  He was an orphan who became one of my great-grandparents.  He left me a priceless heritage of hope."

The tortoise is smiling!

  2. You're right Awes, I have "enjoyed" that hill on more than one occasion. Something very peaceful about the open spaces out there, and you're very lucky as to not have even had wind that day.

What an example you are to all of us! Merry Christmas Awes!!

  3. You voluntarily tackled that hill more than once, Tortoise thinks there must have been some element of enjoyment involved, whether enclosed in quotes or not. :-)

It is definitely peaceful. Lou will return for more ...

And thank you for your kind words. Each Saturday seems to be coming more quickly than the last, just trying to put those marbles back in the jar!
