"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

15-356

Mile 1,081.  It rained much of last night and today, then calmed down.  Tortoise walked home from work about 4 pm by way of the Tortoise Track hill in Confluence Park, the Hurricane Main Street trailhead, and the La Verkin bridge. The picture above?  That was taken at the La Verkin live nativity at the Old White Church at the conclusion of Lou's walk.  Merry Christmas!

The day's walking thought is by Richard G. Scott.  Cheerio!
Passing the ball fields near the north end of 200 West where it
enters Confluence Park as Tortoise Track

View across to La Verkin from the start of the Tortoise Track trail.

Still a very overcast day.

View down to the river and of buildings along State Highway 9 in La Verkin beyond.

The Main Street trailhead continues to take shape.

At the 3 mile mark of today's walk we have red and green lights greeting us
and a church steeple beyond.

Nearing the end of his walk, Tortoise crosses the bridge into La Verkin.

Today's walk was 4.17 miles and had a 4.6 tortoise rating earned by climbing 325 feet in the 2.09 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3285. This walk burned 622 calories in 1:19:07 hours.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2015:

1,081.39 miles walked which is 107.92% of Lou's 2015 goal.  On this day in 2014, Tortoise had walked 997.91 miles.

332:08:21 hours walked which is 106.11% of the 2015 goal (which is to walk 1 hour a day on the 313 days other than Sunday in the year).

59,783 total feet climbed, compared with 48,563 feet on this day in 2014.

162,560 calories burned.

97.44% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 193 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 296 of the 305 non-Sundays in 2015, a 97.05% consistency rating.  This compares with 290 days walked in the same period in 2014 (a 95.08% consistency rating).

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  Yes, this is more numbers than you are likely interested in, all Tortoise can say is he's really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because he doesn't do them every, every day.  (If you doubt this, compare Tortoise's walking record up until 2013 with 2014 or 2015 ... for him, it is what it takes to be consistent.  He hopes you find what works for you).

And now for today's walking thought ...

"The greatest example who ever walked the earth is our Savior, Jesus Christ.  His mortal ministry was filled with teaching, serving, and loving others.  He sat down with individuals who were judged to be unworthy of His companionship.  He loved each of them.  He discerned their needs and taught them His gospel.  He invites us to follow His perfect example."

The tortoise is smiling!
