"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-14

Mile 31.  Tortoise repeated his walk of two days ago, then passed a few more houses at the end before turning back the way he came.  He also slowed down just a touch ... some days he gets more oxygen in each breath than others, ha!  Today's walking thought is by Lawrence Corbridge ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.83 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 199 feet in the 1.42 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3285. This walk burned 473 calories in 43:23 minutes, a pace of 15:20 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

31.74 miles walked which is 4.65% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 26.10 total miles.

8:31:22 hours walked which is 4.07% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

2,592 total feet climbed in 2016, compared with his goal of 1,462 feet.

4,134 calories burned.

3.82% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 213 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 316 of the 325 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.23% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Opposition, criticism, and antagonism are companions to the truth.  Whenever the truth with regard to the purpose and destiny of man is revealed, there will always be a force to oppose it.  Beginning with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, down to the ministry of Christ, and on down to our day, there has always been and will ever be an effort to deceive, derail, oppose, and frustrate the plan of life.

"Look for the biggest dust cloud billowing above the most dirt that is kicked at One who was most opposed, challenged, rejected, beaten, abandoned, and crucified.  One who descended below all things, and there you will find the truth, the Son of God, the Savior of all mankind.  Why did they not leave Him alone?

"Why?  Because He is the truth, and the truth will always be opposed."

-- Lawrence E. Corbridge, "The Prophet Joseph Smith", April 2014 LDS General Conference
