"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-16

Mile 37.  Tortoise did a nice sunset walk up and down the hills along La Verkin's east bench, while listening to the day's walking thought by Marcos Aidukaitis ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.93 miles and had a 5.0 tortoise rating earned by climbing 103 feet in the 1.56 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3230. This walk burned 517 calories in 48:12 minutes, a pace of 15:30 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

37.78 miles walked which is 5.53% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 30.45 total miles.

10:05:22 hours walked which is 4.82% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

2,864 total feet climbed in 2016, compared with his goal of 1,705 feet.

6,134 calories burned.

4.46% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 215 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 318 of the 327 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.25% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.

And now for today's walking thought ...

" ... we can know the truth by observing its fruits.

"During His great Sermon on the Mount, the Lord said:

'Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. ...

"Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."  (Matthew 7:17, 20)

The tortoise is smiling!

  1. What a start to the new year! Consistency in his new shorter walks seems to be going great!

  2. Current averages for the first 14 days walked in 2016 are: 204 feet climbed per day (Lou had not yet received Wounded Duck's 196 foot challenge when doing these walks, but he is at least starting out that way) in an average of 43 minutes 14 seconds per day (close to the 40 minute goal). Average pace is 16:01 minutes per mile, compared with Lou's goal of 18:25 minute per mile).

Yes, Tortoise is pleased with his start to the year. He is getting more weary the past few days ... but hopes to be able to keep it up. Thanks again for your encouragement!
