"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-4

Mile 7.  Tortoise is not quite ready to let go of his favorite relaxing Christmas instrumentals, so he listened to a few, after the day's walking thought by Dieter Uchtdorf, as he took a short spur for just a moment up the East Cinder Knoll trail to get a little more altitude.  This was after walking to the credit union and then up the hill to the phone towers on 600 North and back to the office.  Lou took  a couple pictures too ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.32 miles and had a 4.9 tortoise rating earned by climbing 145 feet in the 1.16 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3286. This walk burned 344 calories in 42:57 minutes, a pace of 18:31 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

7.82 miles walked which is 1.14% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 6.53 total miles.

2:19:51 hours walked which is 1.11% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

503 total feet climbed in 2016, compared with his goal of 365 feet.

1,175 calories burned.

0.96% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 204 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 307 of the 316 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.15% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Everyone's situation is different, and the details of each life are unique.  Nevertheless, I have learned that there is something that would take away the bitterness that may come into our lives.  There is one thing we can do to make life sweeter, more joyful, even glorious.

"We can be grateful!

"It might sound contrary to the wisdom of the world to suggest that one who is burdened with sorrow should give thanks to God.  But those who set aside the bottle of bitterness and lift instead the goblet of gratitude can find a purifying drink of healing, peace, and understanding."

-- Dieter F. Uchdorf, "Grateful in Any Circumstances", April 2014 LDS General Conference
