"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-7

Mile 15.  A snowy day most of the day.  It calmed down a little in time for Tortoise to walk up the hill, accompanied by a walking thought by Gary E. Stevenson ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.63 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 186 feet in the 1.32 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3285. This walk burned 430 calories in 41:10 minutes, a pace of 15:39 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

15.26 miles walked which is 2.23% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 13.05 total miles.

4:16:23 hours walked which is 2.04% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

966 total feet climbed in 2016, compared with his goal of 731 feet.

2,393 calories burned.

1.91% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 207 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 310 of the 319 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.18% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"Now you may be thinking to yourself, 'I already blew it.  My four minutes are already a disaster.  I may as well give up.'  If so, stop thinking that, and never think it again.  The miracle of the Atonement can make up for imperfections in our performance."

--  Gary E. Stevenson, "Your Four Minutes", April 2014 LDS General Conference

  1. Loving these climbing totals! And the 207 consecutive days is so alarmingly awesome!

  2. So far, Tortoise is averaging 161 feet climbed per day in the first 6 walking days of 2016. Your challenge is to top last year's total climbing, which will require 196 feet to be climbed daily (unless of course, Lou manages to walk more than 683 miles in his self-allotted 40 minutes per day, and also assuming he never misses a day.)

Glad you are loving the climbing totals, thank you!
