"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-9

Mile 20.  Lou thinks this isn't a picture you'll see in St. George every day ...

Nor this one in La Verkin:

It's what you get after a week of clouds and moisture, and we are thankful for it!  Made for beautiful walking conditions, so Tortoise found him a nice steep hill to climb and went to work on it.  The day's walking thought is by Thomas Monson ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.76 miles and had a 2.9 tortoise rating earned by climbing 479 feet in the 1.38 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3000. This walk burned 450 calories in 43:34 minutes, a pace of 15:47 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

20.72 miles walked which is 3.03% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 17.40 total miles.

5:42:24 hours walked which is 2.73% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

1,631 total feet climbed in 2016, compared with his goal of 974 feet.

3,284 calories burned.

2.55% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 209 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 312 of the 321 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.20% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.

And now for today's walking thought ...

"We cannot truly love God if we do not love our fellow travelers on this mortal journey.  Likewise, we cannot fully love our fellowmen if we do not love God, the Father of us all.  The Apostle John tells us, 'This commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.' (1 John 4:21)  We are all spirit children of our Heavenly Father and, as such, are brothers and sisters.  As we keep this truth in mind, loving all of God's children will become easier.

"Actually, love is the very essence of the gospel, and Jesus Christ is our Exemplar.  His life was a legacy of love.  The sick He healed; the downtrodden He lifted; the sinner He saved.  At the end the angry mob took his life.  And yet there rings from Golgotha's hill the words:  'Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do' (Luke 23:34) -- a crowning expression in mortality of compassion and love."

-- Thomas S. Monson, "Love -- the Essence of the Gospel", April 2014 LDS General Conference

  1. Glad you like those 479 feet climbed, Wounded Duck! Tortoise was gulping massive quantities of air as he did that climb. He seems to think that made him feel good, even as he did it in less than 16 minutes per mile overall. This is intentional, Lou is trying to increase his lung capacity for future projects with you and Fredricksen.
