"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-29

Mile 69.  Tortoise added a little more to today's walk.  When he got to the middle school health clinic, Lou continued down the hill to 300 North before turning to climb the 200 West hill and return to his office.  He managed to do this while taking a minute and change off yesterday's time.  It was Lou's second 5k walk of 2016, and he did this one in his fastest pace yet, 14:35 minutes per mile.  In this way he is increasing his workout, while keeping his time in the 40-49 minute target range he is looking for this year.  The walking thought was by Henry Eyring ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.25 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 226 feet in the 1.63 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3285.  This walk burned 569 calories in 47:23 minutes, a pace of 14:35 minutes per mile.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

69.39 miles walked which is 10.16% of Lou's 2016 goal of 683 miles.  His goal for this date is 54.38 total miles.

18:25:36 hours walked which is 8.80% of the 2016 goal (which is to walk 40 minutes a day on the 314 days other than Sunday in the year).

5,363 total feet climbed in 2016. Wounded Duck has challenged Tortoise to climb more than the 61,316 feet climbed in 2015 -- but in 40 minutes, rather than an hour daily.  To accomplish this, Tortoise needs to climb an average of 196 feet on each of the 314 walking days in 2016  ... assuming he misses no days at 6 days per week all 52 weeks (definitely quite an assumption!).  But playing along with Wounded Duck, this would mean climbing 4,900 feet in the 25 walking days so far in 2016.  So far, so good, but stay tuned.  This is a tough goal.

11,268 calories burned.

7.96% of the year has passed.

Lou has walked 226 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 329 of the 338 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.34% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy ...

And now for today's walking thought ...

"My promise to you who pray and serve the Lord cannot be that you will have every blessing you may wish for yourself and your family.  But I can promise you that the Savior will draw close to you and bless you and your family with what is best.  You will have the comfort of His love and feel the answer of His drawing closer as you reach out your arms in giving service to others.  As you bind up the wounds of those in need and offer the cleansing of His Atonement to those who sorrow in sin, the Lord's power will sustain you.  His arms are outstretched with yours to succor and bless the children of our Heavenly Father, including those in your family."
