"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-60

Mile 149.  Tortoise took a welcome detour on his 6;15 walk this evening.  At the top of the hill near Valley Academy, he turned left instead of his usual right, heading up the West Cinder Knoll trail until he had gone a mile and two-thirds.   This put him near the spot pictured above.  After enjoying the view and taking a few pictures, he retraced his steps to complete his walk.   Tonight's walking thought was by Russell Nelson ...

Cheerio!

A couple views up the remainder of the hill that Tortoise didn't walk today.

A short distance to a whole different world!

Today's walk was 3.31 miles and had a 4.7 tortoise rating earned by climbing 244 feet in the 1.66 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3311.  This walk burned 510 calories in 55:25 minutes, a pace of 16:44 minutes per mile.  It's interesting to see how Tortoise slows down on a rocky path compared with a sidewalk or paved trail.  It was Lou's seventeenth 5k walk of 2016.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

149.33 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 162.42 miles.

11,334 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 9,996. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 47:30 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:13 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 252 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 355 of the 364 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.53% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of both distance and of time walked than of the year.  This tells Tortoise that he is on track.  And of course, he also wants to keep the Boredom Committee supplied with plenty of boring numbers so those good folks will be happy.

And now for today's walking thought ..

"Each time you look in the mirror, see your body as your temple.  That truth -- refreshed gratefully each day -- can positively influence your decisions about how you will care for your body and how you will use it.  And those decisions will determine your destiny."

The tortoise is smiling!
