"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-111

Mile 294.  Lou had meetings most of the evening in St. George, so he snuck in a quick walk a little after 5 pm -- and made it count by doing the Tortoise Track loop from the new trailhead at the north end of Hurricane's Main Street.  He's included some pictures at the trailhead later in this post.  Walking thought was by David Bednar ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.15 miles, done in 42:56 minutes at an average pace of 19:58 minutes per mile.  This route had an average 3.3 tortoise rating earned by climbing 322 feet in the 1.08 mile uphill portion. Peak grade in the middle of the Tortoise Track trail was 17%.  Average elevation was 3183.  This walk burned 327 calories.  Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

294.97 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 302.55 miles.

21,004 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 18,620. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in 16 minutes less each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 50:58 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:25 minutes per mile, slightly more tortoise like than his goal of 16:05 minutes per mile, but a noticeable difference from his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 296 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, Overall he has walked on 399 of the 408 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.79% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"We are imperfect human beings striving to live in mortality according to Heavenly Father's perfect plan of eternal progression.  The requirements of His plan are glorious, merciful, and rigorous.  We may at times be filled with determination and at other times feel totally inadequate.  We may wonder if we spiritually can ever fulfill the commandment to stand spotless before Him at the last day.

"With the help of the Lord and through the power of His Spirit to 'teach [us] all things; indeed we can be blessed to realize our spiritual possibilities."

The tortoise is smiling!
