"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-140

Mile 385.  You're looking at part of the million dollar view that comes at no extra charge with sandwiches at the Subway in Hildale, Utah.  The mountains are very nice here for sure!  As for the sign, well that should be taken seriously too.  The stream that crosses the road is dry most of the time, but when it has water ... it has powerful water!

Tortoise was in the neighborhood this afternoon for the inaugural meeting of the UT-AZ writers group, and since he dreams of being a writer, he accepted their kind invitation ... and quite enjoyed himself.  Afterwards, of course, it was time to walk!  The day's high quality thought is by Erich Kopischke ...

Cheerio!

Sorry, Chief, no chicken today ... closed for renovation.

But the chicken salad in this bakery is recommended by Tortoise!

Andrew Dockstader's karate studio.  Good going, buddy!

This is a nice park.

Crossing that stream we were discussing earlier ...

Hildale's elementary school

And its town hall.

Love taking pictures for Lou's favorite hummingbird lover

This walk started in Arizona, crossed in to Utah, and now as Tortoise
passes Uzona Avenue, he is re-entering Arizona.

Love the clouds!

And here's today's path.

Today's walk was 3.25 miles, done in 57:11 minutes at an average pace of 17:36 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 4.7, earned by climbing 141 feet in the 1.63 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 5034.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

385.33 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 382.17 miles.

28,080 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 23,520. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 54:16 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 16:54 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 321 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. Overall he has walked on 424 of the 433 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.92% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

" ... My father would teach me how to do things with patience and acceptance.

"One day he invited me to tighten a screw and warned, 'Remember, if you put it in too tight, it will break.'  Proudly, I wanted to show him what I could do.  I tightened with all my might, and, of course, I broke the screw.  He made a funny comment, and we started over.  Even when I 'messed up,' I always felt his love and confidence in me.  He passed away more than 10 years ago, but I can still hear his voice, sense his love, enjoy his encouragement, and feel his acceptance.

"The feeling of being accepted by someone we love is a basic human need.  Being accepted by good people motivates us."

The Tortoise is smiling!
