"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-144

Mile 403.  Making memories with Ledge!  Today's Tortoise walk was along the beach near St. Augustine..  Lou believes it was his first recorded walk utilizing flip-flops!  There's lots of pictures here of two days of memories, including the walk.  Plus the thought, by Thomas Monson ...

Cheerio!

Doug & Stef's dream street.  It is definitely peaceful and pretty!

The two Dougs go to church.

Metro Diner is as good as ever!  Including special treatment from the manager.

James Cash Penney had a farm.  A really big one.  Who knew!
Especially for a retail magnate who got his start far away
in Kemmerer, Wyoming.

Water, water, everywhere in Florida.  When you figure out the difference
between a river and an inlet of the ocean here, please enlighten Tortoise.
Whatever you call these bodies of water, they are beautiful!

Let's start walking!

A family favorite -- Magnolia Street in St. Augustine

This morning's walk was 2.31 miles, done in 1:02:45 hours at an average pace of 27:10 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 6.1, earned by climbing 46 feet in the 1.16 mile uphill portion.  It includes a half point adjustment for the mixture of sandy and rocky conditions.  Average elevation was 15.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

403.50 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 391.72 miles.

28,967 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 24,108. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 56:01 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 17:04 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 324 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. Overall he has walked on 427 of the 436 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.94% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"We are a worldwide Church, brothers and sisters.  Our membership is found across the globe.  I admonish you to be good citizens of the nations in which you live and good neighbors in your communities, reaching out to those of other faiths as well as to our own. May we be tolerant of, as well as kind and loving to, those who do not share our beliefs and our standards.  The Savior brought to this earth a message of love and goodwill to all men and women.  May we ever follow his example.
"

-- Thomas S. Monson, "Until We Meet Again", April 2013 LDS General Conference
