"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-146

Mile 408.  A coast to coast walk on this narrow body of land that Satellite Beach sits on.  With the advent of the Intracoastal Waterway, Lou supposes it is now technically an island.  What Tortoise did today was go to the beach one more time with the Ragozzines, then walk back to their house by his usual "let's find a magical mystery tour" route finding method.  Walking thought was by Mary Cook ...

Cheerio!

This morning's walk was 3.03 miles, done in 1:05:33 hours at an average pace of 21:38 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 6.9, earned by climbing 16 feet in the 1.52 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 24.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

408.61 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 398.09.

29,015 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 24,500. Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour average in 2015.  So far in 2016 Tortoise's walks have averaged 56:08 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 17:10 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 326 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. Overall he has walked on 429 of the 438 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 97.95% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"One day her teacher started to talk about trials and guaranteed that we would all face them.  She said to herself, 'I don't want trials; I don't want to hear this.'

"It was just a few weeks later that her father woke up on Easter Sunday extremely ill.  Kate said:  'My father was a very healthy person; he was a marathon runner.  My mother was so alarmed by how sick he was that she took him to the hospital.  Within 36 hours he had a massive stroke that shut down most of his body.  He could blink, but the rest of his body was not working.  I remember seeing him and thinking, 'Oh, no, it's happening.  My seminary teacher as right.  i am having a trial.'  Within a few days, Kate's father passed away.

"Continuing, Kate said:  'It was so hard.  You never want to lose the hero of your life.  I knew I could make it a springboard for growth or allow it to be a roadblock.  I didn't want to let it ruin my life, because I was only 14 years old.  I tried to be as close to the Lord as possible.  I read my scriptures a lot.  Alma chapter 40 assured me that the resurrection is real and through Christ's Atonement, I could be with my father again.  I prayed a lot.  I wrote in my journal as often as I could.  I kept my testimony vibrant by writing it down.  I went to church and to Young Women every week.  I surrounded myself with good friends.  I kept close to caring relatives and especially to my mom, who was the anchor in our family."

The Tortoise is smiling!
