"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-168

Mile 466, June 16.  This morning, Tortoise went northbound through a mile or so of Confluence Park before climbing out and looping back by way of the store to bring home some cream cheese.  Multitasking at its best!  Lou also had ulterior motives to lengthening his walk a bit ... he was reminded last night that his Ragozzine grandchildren would like him to take them on the two mile round trip walk up the Virgin River from the end of the Zion National Park shuttle to where the trail becomes the river and a fun, scenic place to play in the water.  Well ... that being the plan, Tortoise decided to pick up his daily pace so that he could complete his fifth time walking 500 miles since January 2014.  Not so bad at an average of about an hour a day.  So stay tuned to see if he pulls this off -- there are still 32 miles to be walked in 7 days in order to be ready to do that.

Today's thought heard while walking was by Dieter Uchtdorf, and yes, it involves flying ...

Cheerio!

Even at 8 am the shade is welcome!

Smiling Tortoise signs the register at each end of his walk through the park.

Didn't this walk seem to be the best way to bring home
the single item that was needed?  :-)

Today's walk was 4.06 miles, done in 1:16:48 hours at an average pace of 18:55 minutes per mile.  This route had an average tortoise rating of 4.0, earned by climbing 283 feet in the 1.30 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3136.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

466.77 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 458.60.

32,552 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 28,224.  Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour per day average in 2015.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 56:39 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 17:29 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 345 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015.  Overall he has walked on 448 of the 457 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.031% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"I always loved flying, whether it was in a Piper Cub, an F-18, or any other plane.  While in the Piper Cub, I did not complain about the lack of speed; while in the F-18, I did not grumble when the strain of the aerobatic maneuvers mercilessly revealed the realities of my advancing age.

"Yes, there is always something imperfect in any situation.  Yes, it is easy to find things to complain about.

"... we are called upon to serve, to bless, and to act in all things for the good of everyone and everything entrusted to our care.  Could there be anything more exhilarating?"

-- Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "The Joy Of The Priesthood", October 2012 LDS General Conference

The tortoise thinks not.  He is smiling!
