"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-170

Mile 477.  Tortoise is happy today.  He has family gathered to spend Father's Day weekend with him, always a fine treat!  Wounded Duck wanted to walk with Tortoise, and he loves trails that go uphill, so they headed up to the Overlook for some fine views and good company.  But ... how wounded does Mr. Duck look up there in that picture?  Sounds like he should be named the "formerly wounded Duck", but, he insists the wounded description is still valid.

Smiles were had all around, and what else matters, really?  The day's walking thought was provided by Thomas Monson ...

Cheerio!

Looking over at the Hurricane Canal and its trail.  Another fine place to walk!

No, that plaque isn't going anywhere.  Enjoy!

Guess what Tortoise is writing about, all comfy and relaxed after his walk!

Today's walk was 5.75 miles, done in 2:19:15 hours at an average pace of 24:13 minutes per mile. (The first mile was 30 minutes, as was the second including 10 minutes of joy at the Overlook.  The remaining miles were all right about 19 minutes each.) This route had an average tortoise rating of 2.5, earned by climbing 647 feet in the 1.75 mile uphill portion.  Average elevation was 3537.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

477.35 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 464.97.

33,501 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 28,616.  Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour per day average in 2015.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 57:26 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 17:34 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 347 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015.  Overall he has walked on 450 of the 459 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.039% consistency rating.

One step at a time can lead to great things!

And now for today's walking thought ...

"During the 1940s and 1950s, an American prison warden, Clifton Duffy, was well know for his efforts to rehabilitate the men in his prison.  Said one critic, 'You should know that leopards don't change their spots!'

"Replied Warden Duffy, 'You should know I don't work with leopards.  I work with men, and men change every day'."

-- Thomas S. Monson, "See Others as They May Become", October 2012 LDS General Conference

And so can each of us!

The tortoise is smiling!
