"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Mile 671.  The sign has been unveiled at the State Road 9 trailhead into Confluence Park.  A good reason for Tortoise to return!  He saw three deer hanging on to the cliff high above the muddy, debris filled Virgin River following this afternoon's thunderstorm.  The deer were doing fine.  Tortoise watched them in amazement at their climbing ability.  After that he listened to a fine thought by Richard Scott and took more pictures ...

Cheerio!

The deer are in these pictures.  Tortoise promises!

There is normally a sand bar that is like a small island in this portion of
the river.  After today's storm, for now, there's just a few hardy weeds
above water level!

Today's walk was 3.29 miles, done in 1:03:59 hours at an average pace of 19:27 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 4.5, earned by climbing 286 feet in the 1.65 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3134.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

671.06 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 652.87.

46,558 total feet climbed so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 40,180.   Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- but in less time each day than his 1:07:04 hour per day average in 2015.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 59:02 minutes each.

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 18:01.9 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 406 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. Overall he has walked on 509 of the 518 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.262% consistency rating.

And now for today's walking thought:

"Throughout the ages, Father in Heaven has inspired select men and women to find, through the guidance of the Holy Ghost, solutions to life's most perplexing problems.  He has inspired those authorized servants to record those solutions as a type of handbook for those of His children who have faith in His plan of happiness and in His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.  We have ready access to this guidance through the treasure we call the standard works -- that is, the Old and New Testaments, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price."

Richard G. Scott, "The Power of Scripture", LDS General Conference, October 2011

44 years ago today, the Tortoise took a walk that would change his life forever, into the old Salt Lake Mission Home to begin his English mission.  The tortoise is smiling for sure, just thinking about this!
