"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Mile 714.  Today's highlight was the La Verkin Family Discovery Day.   A few hundred people came by and enjoyed historical displays and got to play with the computers and enjoy learning about their families.  There are more pictures here of some of that.

When everything was cleaned up and put away, Lou was a tired tortoise, but he still got in a two mile, relatively flat walk.  Nothing for the 52 Hike Challenge this day, but a quality walk all the same.  Thought was provided by Tom Perry ...

Cheerio!

One of five classes today.  We were blessed with wonderful instructors!

This is not a selfie.  Tortoise and his sweet lady were blessed with a visit from Josh,
Megan, Ethan, Kate, and Riley.  They brought yummy reinforcements, thanks!!!

Not sure how many hundred bags of popcorn were enjoyed,
but thank you Amodts!

Folks were excited to share their personal artifacts and
talk about them.  Loved it!

Day is almost done.  Let's walk!

It was suggested to Tortoise that he walked at least two miles helping
his friends at the Discovery Day.  Might be, but he didn't have a way
to measure it, so off he went with a smile.

After all, wouldn't want to miss that pretty moon!

Imagine the Boredom Committee will especially enjoy this one. :-)

Today's walk was 2.04 miles, done in 36:59 minutes at an average pace of 18:08 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 5.5, earned by climbing 65 feet in the 1.02 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3207.

This met Tortoise's 2 mile minimum to be count this as a day walked, but was less than 5k and so he is not counting it towards his 52 Hike Challenge is what is left of the year.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

714.21 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 694.27.

Tortoise has climbed a total of 49,636 feet so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 42,728.   Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- as a way to get the 125 heart rate his doctor suggests for these walks.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 59:07 minutes each, compared with his daily average of 1:07:04 hours the previous year.  He enjoys seeing what he can do in an hour and change each day!

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 18:02.6 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 419 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. overall he has walked on 522 of the 531 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.305% consistency rating.

And now for today's walking thought:

"He [Jesus Christ] came to earth to declare His gospel as a foundation for all mankind so that all of God's children could learn about Him and His teachings.  He then gave His life in order to be our Savior and Redeemer.  Only through Jesus Christ is salvation possible.  This is why we believe He is the central figure in all human history.  Our eternal destiny is always in His hands.  It is a glorious thing to believe in Him and accept Him as our Savior, our Lord, and our Master.

"We also believe that it is possible only through Christ to find ultimate contentment, hope, and happiness -- both in this life and in the eternities.  Our doctrine, as taught in the Book of Mormon, emphatically states:  'Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men."

The tortoise is smiling!
