"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

16-263

Mile 737.  The most exciting part of this evening's walk was the beautiful sunset.  It was designed to be quick and hilly -- three laps down the hill to River Road and back up.  Walking thought tonight was by Henry Eyring ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 3.17 miles, done in 54:15 minutes at an average pace of 17:07 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 3.7, earned by climbing 423 feet in the 1.59 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 2657.

Today's weigh-in:  219.6, a 3.1 pound decrease compared with Lou's last weigh-in on August 30.

This was #hike8 of Lou's 52 Hike Challenge.  Nice views and over 5k in length, even if the views were repeated.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

737.06 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 716.56.

Tortoise has climbed a total of 51,788 feet so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 44,100.   Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- as a way to get the 125 heart rate his doctor suggests for these walks.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 59:16 minutes each, compared with his daily average of 1:07:04 hours the previous year.  He enjoys seeing what he can do in an hour and change each day!

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 18:05.6 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 426 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. overall he has walked on 529 of the 538 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.327% consistency rating.

Today's walking thought was "A Witness", by Henry B. Eyring from the October 2011 LDS General Conference.

"I visited the hospital room of an old friend who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.  I took with me my two young daughters.  I did not expect that she would even be able to recognize them.  Her own family were gathered, standing around her bed as we entered.

"She looked up and smiled.  I will always remember her look as she saw that we had brought our daughters with us.  She motioned them to come close to her on the bed.  She sat up, held them, and introduced them to her family.  She spoke of the greatness of those two little girls.  It was as if she were presenting princesses to a royal court.

"I expected our visit to end quickly.  Surely, I thought, she is tired.  But a I watched, it was as if the years melted away.  She was radiant and obviously filled with love for all of us.

"She seemed to savor the moment as if time had stopped."

The tortoise is smiling!
