"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

Mile 745.  More creativity from Tortoise this evening as the welcome rains continue.  He was at the west chapel to help with the special needs activity program, after which, in a pause in the rain, he did laps around sidewalks around outside of the building.  Turned out to be a pretty place to walk!  Thought was provided by Elaine Dalton ...

Cheerio!

Today's walk was 2.46 miles, done in 47:11 minutes at an average pace of 19:11 minutes per mile. This route had an average tortoise rating of 5.4, earned by climbing 96 feet in the 1.23 mile uphill portion. Average elevation was 3189.

This met Tortoise's 2 mile minimum to be count this as a day walked, but was less than 5k and so he is not counting it towards his 52 Hike Challenge is what is left of the year.

Here are the overall stats so far for 2016:

745.35 miles walked, compared with Lou's goal for this date of 726.11.

Tortoise has climbed a total of 52,228 feet so far in 2016, compared to a year-to-date goal of 44,688.   Lou hopes to climb more than the 61,316 feet he climbed in 2015 -- as a way to get the 125 heart rate his doctor suggests for these walks.  So far in 2016, Tortoise's walks have averaged 59:08 minutes each, compared with his daily average of 1:07:04 hours the previous year.  He enjoys seeing what he can do in an hour and change each day!

His average pace so far in 2016 has been 18:05.5 minutes per mile, compared with his 18:25 minute per mile pace in 2015.

Lou has walked 429 consecutive non-Sundays since his 8 missed days May 2-11, 2015. overall he has walked on 532 of the 541 non-Sundays in 2015-16, a 98.336% consistency rating.

Today's walking thought was "Love Her Mother", by Elaine S. Dalton from the October 2011 LDS General Conference.

"No words describe the sacred occasion when a new father holds a baby daughter in his arms for the first time. ... As I watched our rugged, strong, rugby-playing son ... hold his first baby daughter in his arms, he looked at her with a reverent tenderness, and then he looked at me with an expression that seemed to say, 'How do I raise a girl?'"

These words brought back sweet memories of such experiences for Tortoise ... he is smiling!
