You just never know what the tortoise will find on his journeys. I was minding my own business looking for a place to walk to get some elevation, knowing I would be crossing the Continental Divide today. The gas station attendant in Springerville, AZ was the first person to tip me off to the existence of Pie Town, and that simply to tell me that if I blinked I would miss the town entirely. Well, if you don't blink, here's what you'll get...
As always, the Pie Festival will be held on the Second Saturday of September. Please check the Pie Festival Schedule page for times and locations of spefic events. Hey, Ledge, be sure to bring plenty of Thrifty ice cream (but make sure not to bring it through the Gorge on the way, it just might explode)
There's also a Baptist church in this small town, so plenty of religion here |
Why did I not think they would have this truck here? Wow. |
View on the Continental Divide Trail headed south of town. This is where I turned and went back. |
Here's the stats and map on this walk in Catron County, New Mexico:
2.29 miles with 128 feet climbed in 51 minutes, a HumanaFit category 5 climb. Tortoise rating: 4.3, reflecting the 7800 foot elevation here. Chapter 3 totals are now 72.02 miles walked in 28 hours 37 minutes, with 4,249 feet climbed, and 11 swims totalling 4,240 meters in 4 hour 34 minutes. It was my eleventh category 5 climb, and first since July 9. Totals of my category 5 climbs is 19.79 miles with 1,604 feet climbed in 7 hours 7 minutes.
I never could find any Continental Divide Trail signs. In asking at breakfast, I was told that this is part of the section of trail where you walk on the road, and that the trail crosses highway 60 and follows highway 603 north out of town. So no CDT pictures, but plenty of others.

Today's Last Word ...
I read Amos 9, Obadiah, Jonah 1-2 at the Pie Town community park this morning, which includes the well known story of Jonah ...
2 And said, I cried by reason of mine aaffliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of bhell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou abrought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.
If the Lord can hear our voice there, he can hear it anywhere ... from anyone!
Cheerio!

So which pie did you try? Sounds like I'll have to go back with you
ReplyDeleteWell ... I was there for breakfast so I had the blueberry buckwheat pancakes (half a dozen dollar size, which made them all together about one regular pancake), scrambled eggs and bacon, washed down with my favorite beverage, water. It was good! But no pie. Would be fun to go back with you though, we could play hoops on their concrete court at the town park. My picture of that didn't turn out. We could camp at the town campground. But I'll warn you, it's a long drive from anywhere to get there ...
