"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

3-75

I walked 1.23 miles, climbing 23 feet, in 25 minutes in Sulphur, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.  Tortoise rating:  6.8.  Chapter 3 totals are now 74.35 miles walked in 29 hours 30 minutes, with 4,298 feet climbed, and 11 swims totalling 4,240 meters in 4 hour 34 minutes.

Sulphur you may remember as a place we stopped on our 2001 cross-country trip.  Grandpa Forsyth so wanted us to eat at what he called the fabulous Pitt Grill ... and it turned out to be anything but.  Well, the Pitt decided to upgrade to a new facility a block away on the other side of the freeway, so for your viewing pleasure I present its new appearance.

However, I was not in the mood to give the Pitt a second chance, and so instead went for a mixture of
orange and vanilla frozen yogurt ... think creamsicle.  There was a large lit parking lot between it and the neighboring Wal-Mart, so I walked and got tasty goodness to end my day ...

If you foodies are wondering what fine eating establishment I stopped at for homemade shrimp and sausage gumbo, french bread and butter, not to mention a very tasty slice of coconut cream pie, well that would be the home of Bill and Stephanie Ledbetter, who were my kind hosts for 2 hours on a stop in DeRidder between Shreveport and Sulphur.  Rachel, Stephanie would be Uncle Wally's oldest daughter, or if you prefer, my first cousin.  Living that far away, I hadn't seen them since they were married ... something like 25 years ago.  We really enjoyed our brief visit, and I got back on the road.  Here's a couple pictures of them ...

Today's Last Word ...

"This is a paradox of man: compared to God, man is nothing; yet we are everything to God. While against the backdrop of infinite creation we may appear to be nothing, we have a spark of eternal fire burning within our breast. We have the incomprehensible promise of exaltation—worlds without end—within our grasp. And it is God’s great desire to help us reach it."  - President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Cheerio!
