"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

13-207

Walk 1 ... 0.64 miles with 20 feet climbed in 30:41 minutes total elapsed time to walk to the credit union (pictured above) and Lins to restock baking potatoes, cottage cheese, reduced fat triscuits, and bananas (go good with yogurt and oatmeal).  Tortoise rating:  5.8.

Was planning to walk to a meeting later, but the rains came, so excuses, excuses, walk 1 is it for today ...

Footnote:  No walk July 25.  Total miles since June 28 - 44.99.

  2. I try hard to come up with different pictures for every walk ... it gets interesting when you walk the same places repeatedly ... so I'm really glad you like what I throw out there :-)

  3. PS - What do you think of the new tortoise walk ratings?

  4. I admit I'm still a bit confused on the rating system because higher seems to be easier and lower harder right?

  5. Yes higher is easier. It is based on the Tour de France climb rating system which goes from 4 (easiest) to 1 (hardest), with something harder than the hardest being rated "beyond category". HumanaFit also follows this system, with the addition of a category 5 for more basic climbs, say 2-3%. There is a full explanation of the tortoise system at the bottom of the blog since it wouldn't fit on the side. I try to make my numbers match theirs, but add ratings for everyday walks (6 and 7 tortoises) and since their system tops out somewhere around 10% grades on a 9000 foot mountain, I have multiple "beyond" categories for things even higher and more strenuous than that. Makes a fun way to compare walks, you can also go down the side of the blog and click on one of the labels and see several walks of the same tortoise level.

I love having fun with this, glad you like the pictures :-)
