"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"
until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise
P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

It's been a blustery day. I worked in my office in Hurricane most of the day, and it was windy enough to shake the building several times. Our home in LaVerkin lost power a couple times in the wind and rain. Late in the afternoon I went to St. George to run several errands, after which there was a brief forecast interlude in the weather, so I headed to the Confluence trailhead where the Santa Clara and Virgin Rivers meet near the Dixie Center, and walked the Virgin River Trail to the Man O' War trailhead in Bloomington and back. The weather did improve -- no wind, only intermittent sprinkles, 43 degrees, and a break in the clouds for a pretty sunset, making for a very nice walk of 4.41 miles with 66 feet climbed in 1:13:59 hours. Being nearly flat and just above 2500 feet elevation, the tortoise rating is 6.1 and HumanaFit doesn't give a category for it.
If you'd like to click below, you'll get a map, more pictures, and food details for the day ...
The yellow sign in the middle of the trail bridge to the left is for the
benefit of canoers on the river, warning of an upcoming obstacle
The trail passes under the twin I-15 bridges at about 0.4 miles on the trail
The Bloomington Wal-Mart appears on the left at about 0.6 miles
There are several benches along the way, this one is at about the mile mark
At about 1.8 miles you pass under this interesting screen that protects
you from golfers practicing on the adjoining driving range.
Made it to Man O' War. The bridge lights are decorated for the holidays.
The trailhead headed back the other direction on the trail.
My friend the black beanie helped make the intermittent light rainfall
a pleasant part of the walk. (This view was as I put it on at the trailhead
as I started my walk).
I love the selfie picture, you look righteous, and is this the trail I was asking about? If so it looks awesome and I can't wait to bask on a hike on this trail with you
