"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-39

Until we meet again ... dropping Sarah off at the SLC airport to head home to Florida.  She won't need that coat there!

It was a great visit!

Not to be outdone, today was a 4 walk day, albeit one of them is in the running for the shortest Terreeeblay walk ever.  The walks totalled 3.39 miles with 393 feet climbed in 1:18:54.  We had the walk to the Salt Palace, followed by the walk back to the hotel to retrieve the car and take Sarah to the airport.  A little later, I started walking around the Cracker Barrel parking lot in Springville while waiting for Benjamin to arrive.  That walk lasted all of 1 minute 38 seconds of brisk air goodness, then Benjamin arrived and we headed inside to get to the important business at hand.  Breakfast!

After saying goodbye to Benjamin, I studied the weather map, thinking about where I could walk to avoid the storms and get some hills to climb.  The Scipio Wild Goose trail was discovered!  Tortoise rating:  1.9 (including a half point for the snow I walked uphill in)  Calories burned:  571.

Cheerio!

For the record:  This walk is 4 miles from Scipio and 17 from Fillmore, even if the mapping software thinks that's the best location name to give this ...

Let's get a close up of the big radio and cell phone towers at the top of
the Scipio grade on Interstate 15.  Thank goodness for tire tracks that
made the walk up this road a little easier :-)

It's official!  The Wild Goose Scipio Trail.
Or Forest Service Trail 942 if you prefer.
No, I didn't know this would be here until
I headed up the road to see.

Above the towers now.  Tire tracks are now from snowmobiles.

Future walks to explore:  A trail junction after just a mile.

The view back to the Interstate, and beyond to Delta at the horizon

This was a good workout for sure!

2014 Stats:

121.77 miles walked, which is 12.18% of my 2014 goal.

40:09:53 hours walked, which is 12.83% of my 2014 goal
  6,822 total feet climbed
19,323 calories burned
10.86% of the year has passed.
I've walked on 33 of the 34 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 97.06% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

 The tortoise is smiling!

  1. Looking at the sign, I guess I got it backwards, but the Wild Goose Scipio trail is a fun name too! Want to walk it with me on some trip north after the snow melts?
