The tortoise tried unsuccessfully to get a boredom committee representative to accompany him on this morning's walk, partly on the grounds that the temperature would already be too warm even early in the morning. I waited until 9 am to walk in this attempt, and now present the Shady La Verkin walk to show the delights of summer morning walks here. It was 78 degrees and just the right amount of breeze when I started walking, and there is a surprising amount of tree shade available almost immediately after starting a walk, as illustrated in the picture above.
The walk continued for 4.21 miles with 325 feet climbed in 1:30:00 hours. Tortoise rating: 3.3 (based on all the climbing occurring in 1.08 miles of the walk) ; calories burned: 682. Cheerio!
The Parley P. Pratt 1849 exploring company memorial at the west end of Center Street, with Tortoise Track in view as a line climbing the hill to the left behind it. Mile 496.1 for the year |
More shade at the bottom of the hill! |
Here's the intersection of the Virgin River Trail with the Confluence Trail |
You can see the Virgin River Trail continuing on the other side of the river, but there will be no river crossings for tortoise this day |
Mile 497 at the junction with the Cactus Cliff Trail, with the fine sweet rolls and quiche at River Rock Roasting visible at the top of the hill in the distance. |
Mile 498 at a classic La Verkin home on 480 South by more shady trees |
Looped around the block to add enough mileage to hit 499.2; here's the view almost done at mile 499 |
499.21 miles walked, which is 49.87% of my 2014 goal.
155:42:03 hours walked, which is 49.74% of my 2014 goal
22,997 total feet climbed
79,818 calories burned
48.5624% of the year has passed
I've walked on 141 of the 152 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 92.76% consistency rating.
The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.
The tortoise is smiling!
48.5624% receives a boredom citation! That type of detail and awes reporting is unacceptable to the boredom world.... And to think we were back on track after that chair pic.....
ReplyDeleteBack to 1 red card!
Truth be known the 48.5624% was a typo, it should have been 48.56%. Don't know if that changes anything for the Boredom Committee, but the truth will set you free...
