"The Blog Almost Too Boring To Be The Most Boring Blog in America ... for Over 5 Years!"

until it got too many red cards from Wounded Duck and the Boredom Enforcement Committee ... now the tortoise's goal is to get to 10 red cards so he can get Big Dog to drive down and take a good long walk with the tortoise

P. S. This blog listens to its readers. We have the Benjamin Category Override for 5+ mile walks and now, it humbles Tortoise to say he has been named "Lou", by Doug Jr, in memory of Mr. Consistency himself, Lou Gehrig. Tortoise can hardly type the words to think he is in any way comparable to the noble Iron Horse. Thank you!

14-245

Here's Tortoise's view not quite halfway through this morning's 3.55 mile walk.  It was about 70 degrees when this was taken a few minutes before 7 am, very nice walking conditions!  Tortoise climbed 82 feet along the way today in 1:02:12 hours.  The average tortoise rating on the uphill portion was 5.7; calories burned were 551.

2014 Stats:

698.19 miles walked, which is 69.75% of my 2014 goal.
220:55:16 hours walked, which is 70.58% of my 2014 goal
32,962 total feet climbed
111,501 calories burned
67.09% of the year has passed

I've walked 19 consecutive non-Sundays since my last missed day on August 11, and overall have walked on 198 of the 210 non-Sundays thus far in 2014, a 94.29% consistency rating.

The purpose of the percentages is to have a higher percentage of distance and time walked than of the year. This tells me I am on track. I'm sure this is more numbers than you are interested in, all I can say is I'm really good at setting high goals and having them slip away because I don't do them every, every day.

Today's thought from Richard P. Lindsay (1926-2010) ...

"This past year has given me a new vision of the Savior’s words as recorded in Matthew: 'Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.'

"(I was) blessed to visit the home of a dear brother who, in a tragic industrial accident on August 26, 1958, fell from a cooling tower into a hole thirty-five feet below, where he landed on his head and became paralyzed from the shoulders down. In the intervening thirty-one years he has survived as one of the longest-living quadriplegics in medical history. He was unable to attend the conference meetings, but a brief, thoughtfully prepared video of his life and testimony was presented in the Saturday evening session of conference. He lies not in a bed but suspended on a circular metal rack, where he has received devoted nursing care twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, since this accident—more than thirty-one years ago.

"This brother, whose home we visited following the conference, praised his nurses, his priesthood leaders, his home teachers, and many others who during those long years stood by his side and ministered to his spiritual and temporal needs. A wise stake president had called him to be the regular correspondent to the missionaries and the servicemen from his stake. I have been inspired many times as I have read his letters sent to bolster the faith of choice young missionaries across the world.

"May I quote two lines from one of these missionary letters: “Christ is the only way to heaven. All other paths are detours to doom—commitment to Christ should go hand in hand with commitment to His Church.”
